Welcome to Chai Therapy, counselling and psychotherapy

I offer a culturally sensitive and trauma-informed space for individuals navigating depression, anxiety, low self-worth, life transitions, and the impact of past or present trauma. My approach is grounded with intersectional feminist theory and queer-affirming values – recognising  how personal and collective experiences  (including identity, culture, and systemic oppression or racism) shape our mental health, well-being and sense of self.

People come to see me for all sorts of different reasons. I would describe the most common reasons being feelings of anxiety about their life,  questions about the self,  identity and belonging;  unexpressed or unprocessed traumas, along with general ‘stuck in a rut’ life issues.

I have worked therapeutically with adults and young people for over 20 years including volunteer work with the UNHCR at the African Refugee Development Centre (ARDC) in Tel Aviv, Israel.  Previous counselling roles have been in the NHS, various charities including the Women’s Counselling & Therapy Service, and as a Schools Therapist up until 2018.

I have run a full-time private counselling practice for adults since 2018.

How I Work

My Approach

My counselling approach is Relational and rooted in anti-oppressive, anti-racist, and feminist values. This means that it is your lived experience which is the focus. I work to build a strong, authentic relationship with you, this framework is central to how we create meaningful change together. I pay close attention to the ways your past and present relationships — including those shaped by identity and culture, may be affecting your current experience and sense of self.

I offer a non-judgemental, confidential and affirming space where you can speak openly about what’s troubling you. Together, we can explore your story with care, curiosity, and respect, supporting growth, healing and self-understanding.

I am a certified Rewind practitioner. The Rewind is a gentle and effective treatment for trauma and common PTE (post trauma experience) symptoms.

what to expect

I work in an integrative exploratory way.  Psychotherapy with me is not prescriptive or a directional process. I work intuitively to enable you to uncover and understand aspects of yourself which may have been hidden from you. Understanding of ‘self’ can lead to fundamental changes in how one relates to and feels about themselves and those around them. This concept forms the basis of how I approach my work.

Before you decide, you will have a consultation with me where we will agree what your main motivations are for therapy. The consultation is an opportunity to explore and gain understanding of your expectations for therapy so that you can enter into the process with confidence.

During the consultation, aspects including confidentiality and professional boundaries will be explained.

There is no set limit on the number of appointments you have. This  essentially is down to you. As our work together progresses we will have reviews to ensure what we are doing is useful and focused on whats important. When you’ve done what you need to do, we’ll know.

Sessions

I work from a comfortable, warm welcoming counselling room. However, the access is up a flight of stairs with no current alternative access.

Appointments are 50 minutes and available either in-person at my counselling room or online. The choice is yours.

Appointments are usually weekly, same day, same time. This helps to keep structure and routine. I am happy to work flexibly to your needs and commitments such as shift work and child care requirements. We can discuss each option to help you decide which format is best suited for you.

Rewind Trauma sessions work differently. Take a look at the Rewind section below to find out more.

Clinical Supervision

I offer supervision that is reflective, collaborative and grounded in a commitment to anti-oppressive practice. I’m particularly interested in themes of cultural identity, power and privilege. My supervision work is informed by intersectional feminism, queer-affirming values, and a deep respect for difference.

I support counsellors, psychotherapists, trainees, and others in the helping professions who want to feel both held and challenged in their clinical thinking, professional and personal development.

Whether you’re exploring trauma work, identity-affirming practice, or negotiating organisational pressures, I aim to provide a space where we can think together about what’s happening – in the therapy room, in the wider systems you work in, within yourself.

Supervision Fees

I charge £85 for a supervision hours

Trainee counsellors are charged £60 per hour

Group supervision POA depending on number of attendees.

I offer fortnightly, monthly or ad hoc supervision for individual practitioners or groups. I work both online and from my counselling room in Headingley, Leeds.

If something from the past is still affecting how you feel today, you’re not alone. Flashbacks, anxiety, nightmares, or feeling triggered can continue long after a difficult experience  even when life looks “fine” on the outside. The Rewind Technique is a structured, gentle approach designed to help reduce the emotional intensity of traumatic memories, without needing you to talk through everything in detail.

A Different Approach to Trauma

Many people avoid therapy because they worry about having to relive painful experiences.

The Rewind Technique works differently; It is designed to:

Be calm and structured

Avoid detailed retelling of the trauma

Help your brain process the memory safely

Is This Right for You?

You might be considering this if:

You feel stuck despite time passing

You want support but feel unsure about traditional therapy

You’re looking for a gentle, structured approach

If you’re unsure, that’s completely okay. Take the first step,  reach out with questions before booking.

How the Rewind Technique Can Help

This approach may support you if you experience:

Flashbacks, nightmares intrusive memories or disrupted sleep,

Anxiety linked to past events

Feeling triggered by certain places, people, or situations

A sense that you’re “not fully over” something

The goal is not to erase the memory — but to reduce its emotional impact, so it no longer feels overwhelming.
